i will give teachers the respect they deserve
Teachers are HEROES! Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to spend just one day in a classroom managing 34+ kids with no help and limited resources and they will quickly realise the Herculean task that is asked of teachers every single day ~ 181 days a year!
It is my firm belief that teachers are society's MOST IMPORTANT asset and yet they are currently facing a government that is systematically trying to break them by insisting they teach a ridiculous curriculum to over-crowded/under-staffed classrooms for an insulting compensation!
If elected, I will show teachers the RESPECT they deserve by fiercely advocating for:
- Smaller class sizes
- Increased wages
- A moratorium on this badly botched curriculum so it can be replaced with one that is actually written by teachers!
- a maximum of only 2 Inclusion Students per classroom with a full-time Educational Assistant provided for each one
- Increased per-student funding to better provide teachers with the resources they need
More functional classrooms and increased wages: Danielle Smith claims that teachers can't have both ~ the government can only afford one or the other! Alberta is Canada's richest province but we spend the least on public education per capita in the country! How can the premier boast powerful prosperity and then cry debilitating poverty when asked to invest in our school system? Which one is it, Dani-Girl? You can't have both - it's either one or the other!
Better working conditions for our teachers equal better learning conditions for our students! Our teachers DESERVE it. Our province can AFFORD it. And if elected, I will FIGHT for it!
